It’s hard to believe, but both Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor are said to have regularly shaved their faces in the pursuit physical perfection. During the Golden Age of Hollywood, screen sirens of Monroe or Taylor’s calibre were expected to have flawless skin, which was no small achievement when you consider the lack of cosmic beauty treatments available to them. As well as very few cosmetic treatments, the quality of make up in and around the 1950s wasn’t nearly as good as it is now. In an era before laser hair removal, cinema’s most beautiful women had no choice but to shave away their unsightly face fuzz and baby hairs. Contrary to popular myths as well, shaving hairs from your body does not cause them to grow back stringer and darker, so in the 50s it was a viable way of women looking good!
Fortunately for today’s celebrities the choice of treatments for hair removal are a great deal more sophisticated than those of 1950s. One of the most popular treatments utilised by the rich and famous is laser hair removal, which in simple terms, is the use of a highly targeted light beam to disable hair follicles. This laser light is absorbed by the follicle and reaches right down to the root of the hair. The intensity of the light spectrum means that the follicle is damaged, and will not soon grow another hair. In most cases this gets rid of the hairs, and results in permanent hair removal. In the past decade the technology for this has improved massively, and has gone from a slow and painful process to quick and simple, laser based procedure. People debate what the feeling of this is like, but many have compared it to a light pinch, or, rather strangely, the gentle snapping of a rubber band on the skin.
Amongst the many celebrity users of laser hair removal is Kim Kardashian. The reality television star revealed in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that she had turned to the treatment as a means of permanently removing ugly baby hairs from her hairline and forehead. Apparently, Kim struggled with the problem of baby hairs for some time before turning to the laser. Waxing failed to provide a permanent solution, but laser treatment delivered a lasting result. According to some sources, the procedure was so effective at dealing with the 32-year-old’s baby hairs, she convinced boyfriend, Kanye West to undergo the same laser hair removal treatment as well.
