Fitness is not instantaneously gratifying. Sure, you will feel good after a workout, but the results will not immediately show. It takes months of work, and commitment to diet and exercise to see dramatic results. One of the most frequent resolutions made by most people, dedication to fitness is sometimes hindered by lack of motivation. You might be able to stick with the program through the first couple of weeks, but somehow the fire dies down, and suddenly your old life takes over and you revert to old habits. The only way to keep chasing after your life and fitness goals is to stay motivated along the way. It is said motivation is like a shower- it does not last, and that is why it is recommended daily. But how exactly do you keep yourself psyched up?
Chase Your Goals Slowly but Steadily
Having a goal in mind is good, but breaking it down into smaller goals with deadlines is the way to go about it. To put this into perspective, if you want to lose 40 pounds, don’t keep your mind set on seeing those pounds disappear from the scale because the goal will seem too far from fruition. Instead focus on losing 5 pounds a month. The goal seems more plausible, and perfectly timed. It might not look like much in a month, but in 8 months you will be at your ideal weight, and smiling gloriously about it.
Take Fitness to a Social Level
If you can’t find a workout partner to accompany you on your run or on your trip to the gym, find online communities where you can share your experiences and stay motivated. Once you get bitten by the fitness bug, it becomes easy to relate with others who share this interest with you, and socializing with them is easy. Inform your friends of your fitness journey, and they will point out your progress if it is not immediately obvious to you. You always feel motivated to continue reaching for your fitness goals when your efforts are noticeable.
Put Yourself through a Fitness Challenge
Register for competitive events or charity events such as 5K and 10K marathons. When you immerse yourself into this bigger part where your levels of fitness are tested, you will feel better when you are able to complete the challenge, regardless of the kind of performance you feel. It will also help you get a better perception of how much more work you need, and how closer you are to your goals. If you can’t find any events, test your fitness through things such as hiking and cycling to see how far you can go.
Stay Updated with Latest Health and Fitness News
Keep yourself continuously updated with any news and information you can find on exercise and nutrition. Read about new recipes you can try out, new diet ideas you can incorporate into your program, new ways to perform common exercises and so on. Grab some fitness magazines and soak up whatever useful information you can find. The advantage with doing this is that it will help you diversify your nutrition and workout efforts, so you won’t stagnate in your progress or hit any plateaus.
Remember to Enjoy Your Progress
Buy yourself some better fitting clothes, and let them complement all your hard work. Spend an afternoon at the beach and enjoy the new confidence that you feel. The idea is not really to show off, but rather, to acknowledge your efforts, and allow the results to filter themselves into your life and become your new reality. Feeling good in your own body is one of the biggest rewards of staying on track with your fitness goals.
These tips should hopefully help you learn how to relentlessly pursue your fitness goals. Don’t be so hard yourself when you slip up. You are only human after all. Just pick yourself up and continue, and eventually, you will have yourself to thank once your goals are in hand.
