Headache: The Most Common Health Disorder

Health problems are prevailing in the life of almost all of us. Headaches are most common and irritating health problem. Headache is always harmful and everybody wants to get rid of them as soon as possible. Headache refers to pain in different parts of the Head, it might be confined to a part of the head. Headache ranks at the top among all the health ailments.

Some common types of headache in the medical dictionary are: drug induced headache, medication overuse headache, migraine headache, ice prick headache, traumatic or post traumatic headache, sinus headache, and the most common is tension headache. Some of them need to be discussed in details:

Tension headaches: these are the most common type of headache. A wide range of adolescents and adults are affected by tensions. This leads to headache. They may lead to tightness in the muscles of some parts of the head or scalp or even in the neck. This may lead to pain in the same affected areas. Stress is believed to be the primary cause of this type of headache. But research is still ongoing to find the actual reason for the same. This leads to a mild or moderate pain in the head. People feel as some tight band is tied around their head. Some factors that are estimated and thought to be the causes are:

 

  • Stress, anxiety and depression.
  • Bad sitting or standing posture may also cause headache.
  • Staying in a limited posture for a long time.
  • Clenching jaws
  • Watching T.V or using a computer for several hours without a break.

Treatment that may reduce the severity by tension headache:

  • Taking a shower might reduce the pain temporarily. One can be benefited either by hot or a cold shower.
  • Change in lifestyle may also help in reducing the severity. Enough sleep, doing stretching exercises of neck and back can eliminate the problem.
  • A balanced diet can help in solving a lot of health problems and true for reducing the pain.
  • You can go for meditation and yoga instead to take pain killers on a regular basis.

 

Sinus headache: This type is sometimes confused with migraine and tension headache. This is characterized by a strong and constant severe pain in forehead, nose and the cheekbone. The causes may be:

  • A cold body condition due to decrease in body temperature.
  • When you go to high altitudes.
  • Nasal swelling probably also lead to sinus.
  • Reoccurring allergies like hay fever or asthma.
  • Respiratory tract infections.
  • Structural problems in the nasal chamber by birth or due to some accident.

Treatment, remedies or prevention to reduce the sinus:

  • Avoid bending forward and lying down the body in a condition of the sinus. Since, it can worsen the problem.
  • Avoid the consumption of cold drink, ice cream and other such cold stuff.
  • Alcoholic chilled drinks like beer, champagne etc. should be avoided. They accelerate the blood flow to the brain and cause sinus headache.
  • Make sure that your body is dry, avoid swimming.

 

Migraine: Headache that is very severe and persists for long duration in a particular area is migraine. People suffering from migraine take medicines and painkillers to lessen the severity. Caffeine works best in relieving the pain from migraine. But excess is bad. Take enough sleep and eat healthy.

 

Try meditation and yoga to feel good. Give some time to yourself to get rid of this problem. Stay healthy and enjoy life to the extreme.
